Lakeshore Symphonic Band is proud to continue its tradition of sponsoring the Annual Young Artist Scholarship Competition. Student musicians from area school bands have an opportunity to audition and perform a solo accompanied by the Lakeshore Symphonic Band at our Spring Concert.

The Lakeshore Symphonic Band will hold its 2018 Young Artist Competition on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Cedarburg High School. This annual tradition provides an opportunity for a high school wind or percussion musician to audition to perform a solo work with the band at the season’s final concert in May.

Scholarship Award

In addition to performing with the band in concert, the 2018 winner will be awarded a scholarship of $750, an increase over previous scholarships.

The winner is selected through an audition process. Auditions for 2018 will be held at:

  • Cedarburg High School - Band Room
  • W68 N611 Evergreen Blvd., Cedarburg
  • Tuesday, March 20, 2018 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Auditions will be scheduled when the application and fee are received. Applications with payment must be submitted by March 4, 2018.

The 2018 winner will perform on the Spring Concert in May 2018. Before auditioning, be sure you do not have another conflicting event at the same time as the May concert. The 2018 application and information sheet are available below.

Band Directors and Private Teachers

Please spread the word about this excellent opportunity for your students by sharing a link to this page. Feel free to print as many copies of the application form, information sheet and poster as you wish.

To participate in the LSB Young Artist Competition you must choose a piece which has a band or chamber wind ensemble accompaniment available for purchase or loan. Some compositions are only available as rentals. These will usually not be considered for the competition due to the extremely high cost of renting the set of parts for the band.

For most instruments there are numerous solos available with band accompaniment. We have made this suggested repertoire list available to give you some ideas, although many more are available.
